Concerns about Nanoparticles and Toxicity

Research has shown that nano-sized particles accumulate in the nasal cavities, lungs and brains of rats, and that carbon nanomaterials known as 'buckyballs' induce brain damage in fish. Vyvyan Howard, a toxicologist at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom, has warned that the small size of nanoparticles could render them toxic, and warns that full hazard assessments are needed before manufacturing is licensed.
